Description

Only a short drive from Ljubljana, there lies Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Particularly known for its unbeatable charm around Christmas time, but amazing in all periods of the year. The city is the political, cultural and artistic centre of the country with a rich & interesting story shown through numerous monuments, buildings, churches and squares.

From Ljubljana we head south, towards the border with Croatia. Shortly after crossing the border we reach the capital city Zagreb, situated under the Medvednica Mountain (Zagrebacka Gora) along the Sava River banks. Our city tour begins in the city centre where we visit the Kaptol, known for the Cathedral and other Zagreb’s most memorable sights in the fortified mediaeval Upper Town. We then continue to the church of St. Marko with its brightly tiled roof, the baroque church of St. Catherine, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and the Parliament with the Government Palace.

From the Upper to the Lower City, stretching around the main square with the statue of Ban Jelačić, we will see the 19th century National Theater, the Museum of Arts & Crafts, the University and the beautiful Zrinjevac Park with its numerous elaborate Secession (Art Nouveau) buildings.

In the afternoon we will experience a different character of life in the small town of Samobor - famous for its interesting and rich culinary tradition and well-preserved 19th century charm. Our walk through Samobor will take us along the river Gradna, the main town square and the Livadic Castle. Return back to Ljubljana in late afternoon.
